About Kenny
Kenny Kleinpeter
A Baton Rouge Native
I was born the middle child of seven in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 26, 1954. I attended St. George Elementary, Catholic High in Baton Rouge and St. Stanislaus Preparatory School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Right after high school, on June 2, 1973, I married my high school sweetheart, Antoinette Jumonville. After a couple of months, I enlisted in the Navy for four years. During that hitch, we had two children, Kenny, Jr. in 1974 and Heather in 1977.
After returning home, I went to work for the family business, Kleinpeter Dairy, that's right, I'm the proverbial "son of the milkman" and attended LSU Music School. After 20 years, I "retired" to pursue a career in music in 1998.
When I was seven year's old, my mother started piano lessons for my three older siblings. I wanted to take lessons, but she made me wait until I was eight (nothing like sibling rivalry to get you motivated). I stuck with it, taking lessons from Florence Day for 10 years. In the Navy, I played in a top-40 band.
After returning home, I attended LSU Music School for about three years worth of under-graduate study (just enough theory to be dangerous). I played the organ and piano for area churches, St. John the Baptist in Prairieville and Most Blessed Sacrament in Baton Rouge. I was the LSU Baseball organist from 1989 to 1994. Now, I play for St. Thomas More Catholic Church and substitute for other churches when I'm not busy writing or recording.
